Update: This restaurant is now closed as of April 2013
My friends came for a visit from Toronto and we always love going out for dinner. It was the last weekend to take advantage of Barrielicious, a festival where restaurants offer a three course meal at a very modest price. I always look forward to this as it is a great opportunity to try some of the 'pricier' restaurants that I would not normally go to. After looking at the restaurant choices, we decided to give Oscar's Seafood Kitchen & Oyster Bar a try. Oscars is located in downtown Barrie - just north of the five points. It was originally just called Oscar's but they recently revised their name and menu to focus on seafood. (I don't mind - I LOVE SEAFOOD). My friends and I selected items from the Barrielicious menu while Hubby tried their 'Four Course Lobster Tasting Menu'. We really enjoyed our dinner experience. The waitress was friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was relaxed. We were a little bummed that we got shoved into this little room but liked the artwork by local artists hanging around the place. I am so grateful for the patience my friends gave me, as TCB puts it, "I've never had such an enthusiastic photo shoot during dinner before." LOL.

Jalepeno Cornbread w/ Herbed Butter – This was a complimentary appetizer. We all liked the idea, but felt that the cornbread was a little stale.
For my starter, I had the Smoked Lobster, Cheddar and Jalepeno Popper w/ Apple Bacon Chowder – Neat concept. Chowder was on the watery side and the portion was a little steep. The popper was interesting but I didn’t really taste the lobster.
Shucked Oysters! With seafood sauce, shaved horse radish, wasabi caviar and pickled radish. Oysters were fresh and the condiments were great with them.
Chilled Lobster Salad – Hubby’s appetizer.
I had the Teriyaki Glazed Skate w/ Soya, Ginger Asian Slaw and Local Sprouts as my entree – Skate melted in your mouth and the combination of tastes and textures were good. The vegetables are from a local farm and were delicious.
Beef Striploin and Lobster Tail w/ Fries & Red Wine Reduction – Hubby’s Entree. I think Hubby was a little sad that the striploin was so tiny 🙁
TCB had the Grilled Pork Chop w/ Fried Mac ‘n’ Cheese, House Made BBQ Sauce for his entree.
JB had the Hand Cut Fettuccini w/ Shrimp, Scallop & Calamari, Herbed Olive Oil for her entree.
JB and I chose the Cream Brulee for dessert, the perfect creme brulee is warm soft, creamy and the perfect ‘crack’ sound when you hit the crust with a spoon! 🙂
Dessert – Peanut Butter Chocolate Pave w/ Brandy Snap.TCB ‘s choice, I think he may have needed an insulin shot.
Vanilla Ice Cream w/ balsamic, honey, lobster glaze. No worries! It didn’t have a ‘lobster taste to it! Neat concept!
