A cleanse is a good way to 'reset' the body as well as eliminate excess toxins that have accumulated over the years. There are countless trendy cleanse/detox diets out there but I want to share my experience with the 10 Day Rejuvenation Cleanse at Vidya Yoga. I've done another form of cleanse before and I was always lightheaded and starving. I was a little worried about having to go through the same thing again.
The 10 Day Rejuvenation Cleanse is quite different, there were no special shakes or juices, but rather a list of items we are not allowed to eat. Some examples of foods that must be eliminated during cleansing are: Meat, Dairy, Sugar , Gluten, Tofu, Caffeine, food additives, Alcohol (obviously) and pasta. Our cleanse book had a lot of information as well as some recipes for us to try.
Why did I choose to cleanse?
I wanted to kick-start a better eating regime. I don't think I eat 'bad', but I know I could eat better! Some foods upset my stomach, because of this I wanted to see if I had any intolerances. I wouldn't mind loosing some weight too, however I am not interested in starving myself or going on some fad diet.
It was recommended that we only drink pure spring water during the cleanse. Thankfully access to the purest water in the world is only about a 15 minute drive from Barrie. Elmvale has a water kiosk where you can fill up your water jugs - and it's free! Next, I had to reevaluate what I had at home, throwing out anything 'bad' that was necessary. I went out and bought groceries such as vegetables, grains and supplements. My husband also took me out for my 'last supper' at The Works. 🙂
Every morning I had hot water with lemon and for breakfast I had a super smoothie.
Symptoms and Mood
Day 1 : I had a mild headache for most of the day.
Day 2: I felt good, except I had to pee a lot!
Day 3-5: I felt gassy. My stomach gurgled continuously and my stool was loose (sorry for the TMI). I also felt 'smelly'. This is all normal as your body is getting rid of the toxins in your body.
